Government Inefficiency
A recent letter entitled Dangerous Words is a perfect example of how misquoting without context can distort perception. The author of that letter took the liberty of misquoting Ronald Reagan.
I'm Here to Help
The second recorded paragraph of President Reagan’s news conference in 1986 begins with, “I think you all know that I’ve always felt the nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the Government, and I’m here to help.”
One of the specific points President Reagan made in that news conference was “the government tends to be inefficient, to such a degree that instead of helping, it often causes harm instead.” Both the current Biden Administration and the Texas House of Representatives are perfect examples of inefficiency and causing harm to the American people.

Genuine Commitment
The Wall Street Journal published an article written by Eric Johnson, Mayor of Dallas in July 2023 titled America’s Cities Need Republicans and I’m Becoming One. Mr. Johnson served a decade in the Texas House of Representatives as a Democrat before being elected mayor of Dallas. He has decided to change his political affiliation based on principles of law and order and the practice of fiscal conservatism. He states, “Our cities desperately need the genuine commitment to these principles that has long been a defining characteristic of the GOP (as opposed to the inconsistent, poll-driven commitment of many Democrats).” The article reports, “Democrat policies have exacerbated crime and homelessness. And too many local Democrats insist on virtue signaling….”

VOTE AMENDMENTS
A recent article originally published at WashingtonTimes.com, and again in the Daily Signal, compares America’s decline to the collapse of the Roman Empire. Financial mismanagement, wasteful domestic spending, devaluing our currency, refocusing the American population on external enemies while soaring military expenditures that are not financing actual military readiness—leaving our nation vulnerable to invasion on unsecured borders. “America is heading in the wrong direction. Many no longer believe in the rule of law or respect the civic culture that has built America. Instead, we get hateful propaganda that aims to divide us.” Don’t be distracted or frustrated by the propaganda.
Texas citizens will have the opportunity to vote on amendments to the Texas Constitution in November. Educate yourself. Your vote will define how Texas is governed. The Fayette County Record, your State Senator Kolkhorst, and Representative Kitzman have sent out information to help clarify the ballot language. There is no excuse for neglecting your voting privilege and responsibility.
