Fidelity Month

The Princeton Professor “under no authority but his own” would declare June “Fidelity Month” because he believes instead of dedicating the month of June to a specific interest group, why not dedicate it to a moral virtue such as fidelity.

A Better Idea

I was recently reminded June has been declared “Pride Month.” An article I recently read by a Princeton Professor suggests a better idea.

The Princeton Professor “under no authority but his own” would declare June “Fidelity Month” because he believes instead of dedicating the month of June to a specific interest group, why not dedicate it to a moral virtue such as fidelity.

His premise is the restoration of the important values “such as patriotism, religion, family and community – values that used to unite Americans despite our many differences.”

Fidelity Month

“Pride views the world through the lens of self, and each person is indeed a magnificent image of the ineffable (indescribable) God. No person becomes himself without the help of others, however.”

Respect for Grace

The article states fidelity is derived from the Latin word “fides,” meaning “faith” or “trust.” The word implies “strict and continuing faithfulness to an obligation, trust, or duty,” according to Merriam– Webster.

Many characters in the Bible, like Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Ruth, and Esther, portray fidelity and humility in their respect for the authority of the Creator. Each of these characters received and demonstrated respect for grace and shared grace with others.

Love Our Neighbors

“The Pride movement encourages people to take pride in their identities, but Fidelity Month encourages us to fulfill our obligations to one another. Fidelity recognizes the inherent dignity of all people and encourages us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.”

What a great idea – celebrating “Fidelity.”
